Children’s Summer Reading Program

The 2020 summer reading program is going virtual! Register and log your reading to earn fun badges online. The goal is a total of 20 hours of reading books, magazines, ebooks, or listening to audiobooks. Read to yourself or have others read to you, it all counts towards your goal.

English Language Learning

Free, year-round English Language Learning instruction is offered for adult students who want to improve their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Students may attend weekly classes, or work one-on-one with a volunteer tutor. All teachers and tutors are Literacy Volunteers of the Atheneum who generously contribute their time and enthusiasm. The Atheneum building is temporarily closed due to COVID 19.

Constance Laibe Hays Memorial Lectures

Constance Laibe Hays, a New York Times reporter and the author considered the Nantucket Atheneum one of her favorite places in the world. The Constance Laibe Hays Memorial Lectures series was established to support the work of both new and established writers in her honor. The Constance Laibe Hays Memorial Lecture is on hiatus in 2020. We invite you to watch videotaped recordings of past lectures.
