Commonwealth Catalog

The Commonwealth Catalog is a secondary resource that allows library patrons access to libraries that hold unique collections that are not available in the CLAMS catalog.

The Commonwealth Catalog covers millions of titles at participating libraries across Massachusetts. Items requested through the Commonwealth Catalog will take a few days to reach the Nantucket Atheneum.  Nantucket Atheneum will notify you when your items are ready for pickup. Items must be returned to the Nantucket Atheneum.

Please search the CLAMS catalog first. If the material you want is not available in the CLAMS catalog, search the Commonwealth Catalog.

Become a Library Volunteer

Our volunteer team is one of the real strengths behind the library’s daily operations. They play a vital role in supporting and enhancing our programs, services and mission statement. Volunteering is a wonderful way to stay involved in your community, keep your skills up-to-date or learn new ones, build experience for your resume, and meet new people.

Book Binding

Learn to make books by hand at our monthly book-binding get-together. Next session: Fri., June 23 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. Free admission

Privacy

The Nantucket Atheneum (or the “library”) respects your privacy and has instituted this Privacy Policy intended to ensure that your personal information is handled in a safe and responsible manner.  As the island’s public library resource, the Nantucket Atheneum adheres to the principles in effect for public libraries in Massachusetts, aiming to protect the “identity and intellectual pursuits” of library patrons.

Library Materials Reconsideration

The Nantucket Atheneum is committed to the principles stated in the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights and Freedom to Read statements. The Nantucket Atheneum will acknowledge comments and questions regarding the appropriateness of selection or non-selection of individual works. In such cases, the patron is invited to document specific objections on a special reconsideration form that can be obtained at the Circulation Desk.  The form will be reviewed by the Director, and a response will be communicated in a timely manner.
