Nathaniel Philbrick

Nantucket. Nat was born in Boston, raised in Pittsburgh, and has degrees from Brown and Duke Universities. He and his wife Melissa moved to Nantucket with their two young children in 1986. Nat is the author of close to a dozen books, including Away Off Shore, Abram’s Eyes, In the Heart of the Sea, Mayflower, Why Read Moby-Dick?, and Travels with George. He has served on the boards of the Nantucket Atheneum (during the capital campaign to build the children’s library in the 1990s), the Maria Mitchell Association, and Nantucket Community Sailing. He is the founding director of the Egan Maritime Institute and a research fellow at the Nantucket Historical Association.
